ESG & Sustainability in Bulgaria | 2022 edition

The 2022 edition of our ESG & Sustainability in Bulgaria study is examining the still-evolving environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) regulatory framework – both at the EU and national level – and analysing Bulgaria’s potential to build a sustainable economy, as measured against the criteria set out in the EU Taxonomy.
The public and the private sector have a significant role to play in the country’s success in its transition to a carbon-neutral and green economy. The report provides an overview of the legislation introduced by Bulgaria to regulate, monitor and support the implementation of ESG-related practices and processes in the day-to-day operations of companies.
We also looked at the risks, challenges and opportunities, analysing the GDP structure and its biggest industry contributors, their share in GDP, their classification as sustainable or not, and the reforms that are needed.
Our analysis does not aim to compare national economies in terms of their current sustainability status. We measure the real potential of these economies to reduce emissions and become more sustainable.
